BEADMAN SIGNS OFF WITH VISIT

January 14, 2019

Djarrak Football Club manager and stalwart Danny Beadman signed off his time as a key club member with an emotional visit to Yirrkala Oval last Thursday. Uncle Danny has been an off-field icon for the club, and he and Joey will certainly be missed from training and match-day operations.

Uncle Danny has made the tough decision to relocate to Darwin in order to receive ongoing medical support.

This also means that Miwatj Health Aboriginal Corporation lose an integral member of the Nhulunbuy Clinic. As a Clinic Driver, Uncle Danny was often the first representative that a client would liaise with whilst seeking health services. Joey, the chihuahua, has also been a key representative of both the club and the clinic and was often a prime reason for young children to get into the Miwatj Health van.

Miwatj Health honoured Uncle Danny with a farewell where the board, CEO and staff expressed their appreciation for 12 years of service and dedication. The Nhulunbuy Clinic staff also had a lunch at the boat club for Uncle Danny on Friday.

Djarrak footballers and coaches took the opportunity to address Uncle Danny personally on Thursday night. A great many players spoke from the heart and the club wishes Uncle Danny all the best as he prioritises his health.

Director of Football Hayden Rickard was emotional when asked about the impact that Uncle Danny has had on the club.

He said "One of my favourite quotes sums up Uncle Danny for me. Will Durant once said We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then is not an act, but a habit. Our players have been privy to the actions of excellence in the example set by Uncle Danny.

"The simple act of washing, drying, folding and issuing a football guernsey, the simple act of quenching the thirst of an exhausted player - these are examples that our players can find meaning in when remembering the servanthood that Uncle Danny has delivered whilst fulfilling the duties of Manager at this club"

He added "The changes Djarrak FC has undergone in the time Danny has dedicated himself to the cause, have his signature woven into the fabric of our club. The mental shift of just chasing winning games of football, to actually winning at life, Uncle Danny can be well satisfied with his contribution to a club, community and region".

Members of the club are fortunate they have the ability to visit Danny each weekend during the NTFL Season thanks to the Rirratjingu Aboriginal Corporation Football Program.
