Djarrak Football Club posted its first wins in the Men's and Women's Competitions respectively on Saturday at Hindle Oval. The morning game saw a composed Djarrak FC best a plucky Nhulunbuy Saints FC in the Gove AFLW by 8.6 54 - 2.2 14 in fine conditions. Women's Coach Araluen Maymuru had a mix of youth and experience at her disposal and the Yirrkala based side looked in good shape when clearing the ball forward from congestion to make the most of the outside speed the youthful smalls possess.

Shanita Garrawurra and Ashanti Garrawurra both looked ominous in front of goal and shared two goals a piece throughout. Anansa Garrawurra looks a handy addition to the 2018 side with good composure and care when kicking to advantage of her team mates. The Women face Nguykal FC at 5:30pm at Yirrkala this Friday.

The Djarrak FC Men's side opened its account in the Win ledger with a dominant 26.10 166 - 6.4 40 victory over an understrength Baywara FC. The side was improved in front of goals and kicked an 11 goal quarter in what was a vast improvement from the round 1 encounter. Darwin Buffaloes midfielder Paul Campbell made a solid debut and shared the Centre role with the returning Murray Marika with both players working defensive angles.

Gerrard Nelson and Dale Dhamarrandji controlled the backline with aplomb and both look to be the key to the club again showing a defensive arsenal as its most important weapon to come later in the season. Dwayne Mununggurr had a fine debut game and played with his father Darren Mununggurr in brown and gold. Two consecutive 55m goals have Djarrak supporters on notice with the tall rotating through Ruckman and Centre Half Forward to add a nightmare for defenders.

Senior Coach Steven Raymond rotated positions in the last half of the game after the result was secured and the onus of winning one on one match-ups continues the clubs approach of the first 6 games as a preseason. Game specific content is slowly being introduced by coaching staff new members to the side slowly learning the ropes and how the side favours its starting points.

The men will play Nguykal FC at Yirrkala Oval on Friday at 7pm under lights.
