Experienced coach Steven Raymond will take charge of Djarrak Football Club for the next two weeks in the absence of Senior Coach Hayden Rickard. Raymond has held the senior coaching reins in Gove AFL Round 6 action and he will be surrounded by experienced campaigners in Cameron Stokes, Djayminy Marika and Luke Bath as the club looks to navigate its path towards a qualifying spot in the finals.
Raymond has been sought out by Darwin Buffaloes Senior Coach Matthew Campbell to hold down the important bench coach role for the upcoming NTFL Season and Rickard confirmed Raymond credentials when asked if it will be business as usual for the Brown and Gold Army over the next fortnight. He said "Scully (Raymond) has brought a wealth of football nous to our system here, and he has proven himself at NT Thunder Junior level with touring sides. I believe he was underrated by the former coaching regime at Buffaloes, but he has proved to make the most of his opportunity here. His player feedback and understanding how to get the best out of his midfield is a large part of our small successes to date. He added "It will be business as usual in terms of our resolute approach for getting better for each outing and opportunity and the pleasing thing is Scully gets to drive that agenda following our plan".
A host of changes have been made for this Saturdays game against Gopu Football Club which starts at 4pm at Yirrkala Oval. The major inclusion will be Darwin Buffaloes Football Club Senior Coach Matthew Campbell, who values the relationship with the Rirratjingu Football Program and he will have another chance to talent spot players for the Darwin Buffaloes campaign. Campbell will start off the half-back flank and look to rebound with Joseph Smith and the improving Rhys Mulholland.
Raven Marika will start through the wing rotation but he will be expected to move onto the ball throughout the game. The dangerous forward duo of Djayminy Marika and Joshua Marika have another chance to signal to the coaching staff that they deserve to be key attack targets moving deep into the season.
