DJARRAK CONSOLIDATE LADDER LEAD WITH WIN

May 29, 2017

Djarrak Football Club moved two games clear of chasing teams on the Gove AFL Men's Competition Ladder with a solid 15.10 100 - 8.8 56 win over Baywarra Football Club at Hindle Oval on Saturday. The club had a number of key outs from the roster yet still managed to secure the maximum four points that will provide a buffer as the competition approaches the halfway mark of the season.

Baywarra FC provided an unorthodox test with their fluid play and Djarrak FC often struggled to stick to the pre-game tasks. With the result secured, some players were guilty of going away from the team structures and it highlighted to team management how much work is ahead of the club if they wish to go deep into finals after last years exit at the first hurdle.

Djarrak FC Team Manager Danny Beadman identified the team struggled when without ball possession. He said "Football is about manning up. We lost our accountability when the opposition had the ball. Late in the game we got too cute and kicked long to the contest rather than lower the eyes. If we play like that this week, we will get done".

Players to stand out on the day included defenders Campbell Wurramarba and James Burarrwanga whilst Jeffery Gumana and Michael 'Longy' Maymuru were dangerous through the middle. Small forward Richie Morton showed his composure throughout and the veteran demonstrated his footballing class that has seen playing stints in some of the premier competitions through Victoria and Western Australia.

A number of players return to selection availability this week including Dale Dhamarrandji and Raven Marika after completing duties with Footy Means Business in Melbourne.

BEST: 5 Campbell Wurramarba, 4 Michael 'Longy' Maymuru, 3 James Burarrwanga, 2 Jeffery Gumana, 1 Richie Morton
