The teams for Thursday nights Inter-Club fixture have been forecast with a number of match-ups sure to garner excitement amongst the Djarrak faithful. Team RAYMOND will be coached by Steven Raymond who has had his midfield firing early in the Gove AFL competition.
Their opponents will be Team PRICE, coached by injured forward Bernie Price.
The match will start at 5:40 pm and comprise of two 20 minute halves.
Senior Coach Hayden Rickard explained the rationale behind the game when asked for how it could benefit the club. He said "With a bye coming so early in the piece, I just feel if we are going to keep building momentum we need to really improve our base fitness. Our Darwin Buffaloes exchange boys have shown the way early and they are up and about, its just bringing the rest of the group up to speed really".
When asked if the injury list had curbed his preference for a hit out he replied "Injuries are part and parcel of the landscape. Its about knowing your group really. I'd rather unleash the lads than have them go into their shell next week because we were wrapping them in cotton wool. We have some big outs over the next month or two with our Captain Djayminy Marika likely away for 6-8 weeks with a teared tendon in his finger. Price will be a loss with his groin injury but a silver lining will be an extra sets of eyes on the sideline. Suddenly, this internal match opens opportunities for some players to put their hand up for a starting guernsey next week".
Club officials will confirm the sides leadership group prior to next weeks Round 4 clash with 2016 Premiers Nguykal.
In further news, Djarrak Football Club had its first womens training on Tuesday night. A combined Gove AFL Womens training will take place at Yirrkala Oval this Thursday following the Inter-Club fixture. All interested womens players are encouraged to attend.
