A beaming Lenny Maymuru had his first taste of NTFL Football when he debuted for the Darwin Buffaloes on Sunday afternoon in hot conditions at Asbuild Oval , Palmerston. The Buffaloes toiled away but were eventually outdone 10.4.64 to 8.7.55. Maymuru contributed with a goal. The hiring impaired footballer does not let his ailment affect his football and he played a season of Gove AFL for Djarrak FC before beginning training with the Rirratjingu Football Program.
Maymuru could not contain his excitement over the weekend and his room-mate Justin Burarrwanga was quite surprised when Maymuru had his football gear packed and ready to depart at 4am in the morning.
Rirratjingu Football Program Coach Hayden Rickard was full of praise for Maymuru. He said "Lenny has worked really hard over the past month. It's great to see a smile on his face. He doesn't let his lack of hearing affect his football - he's bloody brave in some situations and generally has eyes for the ball. He added "He's had a taste of Darwin football now. This experience can really add to his improvement and like all program members we will be looking to see him stand tall in next years Gove AFL".
