FORMER DJARRAK PLAYER VISITS PROGRAM

October 25, 2016

The Rirratjingu Football Program was paid a visit by former Djarrak Football Club player Nelson Browne on Tuesday. Browne is in the region for discussions between the local community and Geelong Football Club for the upcoming Geelong Academy that will be aimed at 12-18 year olds. Browne is completing an internship with Geelong Cats and will have opportunities with mainly the VFL Program but will also gain quality exposure to the elite AFL Program.

The program participants were put through their paces last night and Browne delivered a core strength session as well as some condensed small sided games.

RFP Head Coach Hayden Rickard remarked "It was fantastic for Nelson to show up at RFP Training. Some of our older members remember him from his playing days running around in Brown and Gold at 14 years of age. I don't think our younger guys will forget him in a hurry as the look on their faces during the core strength session were priceless. Nelson is going to get some great opportunities with the Cats and we are pretty keen to sponge as much knowledge off him as possible. He added "These trips will likely happen a few times each year so we plan to make the most of each opportunity and further grow our group and the wider Gove AFL standard moving forward".

Players are preparing for matches against Southern Districts on Saturday with away games at Freds Pass with Division 1 starting at 2:00pm and Premier League at 4:00pm.

Rirratjingu Football Program is funded through Rirratjingu Aboriginal Corporation.
