Djarrak Football Club were eliminated from the Gove AFL finals race after falling to Saints Football Club in a tightly contested match going down 9.8.62 - 10.8.68. Djarrak FC played its best football through the middle of the match but were overrun in the final minutes of the game and failed to score from a long range effort.
It was a physical and willing contest with a number of heavy body collisions demonstrating the desperation of both sides at the ball. The Brown and Gold Army were best served by Shaun Mununggurr through the middle and defenders Carlos Gurruwiwi and Aaron Dhamarrandji rebounding strongly from the halfback flank. Lapcy Mununggurr kicked two goals and was a danger throughout when attacking the ball.
Djarrak FC Head Coach Hayden Rickard was disappointed when approached after the match. "I just feel for the guys really. As a team we have worked so hard and the group is pretty shattered at the moment.
"Hats off to Saints. Their threats got in and around the ball when it counted and they managed the last three minutes better than we did. Good luck to them next week.
He added "I'm proud of our squad. We have grown as a group massively over the last month of the season. We have rebuilt our club culture with a very young and new squad. I'd back this squad to rebound next year and I feel our rookies will be better for this bitter experience".
The team will gather in the next few weeks for official club photo's and presentation BBQ. Identified players will also be offered contracts with the upcoming Rirratjingu Football Program that will see Djarrak FC players join Darwin Buffaloes Football Club in the 2016/17 NTFL Competition.
Djarrak Football Club also extend their thanks to Rirratjingu Aboriginal Corporation for their ongoing support.
