DJARRAK BUILD FORM WITH WIN OVER SAINTS FC

August 17, 2016

Djarrak Football Club have qualified in fourth and final spot for the Gove AFL 2016 Finals series with a comprehensive win over the Nhulunbuy based Saints Football Club by 12.9.81- 8.3.51. The victory was a first positive result against the Nhulunbuy team over three attempts this season and continues momentum from the past four weeks.

Shaun Mununggurr was influential throughout the match and his outside work gathering disposals and feeding others was classy. Mununggurr is being groomed for the Rirratjingu Football Program 2016/17 and he will be called on to again find the same form in this coming finals knockout match also against Saints FC via their third placing on the ladder.

Veteran brothers Michael 'Longy' Maymuru and older sibling Benji Maymuru continue to defy father time and both players were called upon to steady the ship and build momentum at certain times throughout the intense game that showed feeling from both sides. Former Hawthorn recruit Cameron Stokes has enabled the defensive zone to stand tall over the past month with his experience and communication and this will be important for the brown and Gold Army to improve on this area in the knockout match if the team is to push deeper into finals action.

Djarrak FC Manager Danny Beadman noted there was feeling in the game. He remarked "There was real feeling in the match, no quarter was given. You could hear he body contact from the sideline but the lads just played tough and won the running game".

The rebuilding side has done well to qualify for finals and the past four weeks have been finals football-like for the group as they chased the final available spot. Djarrak FC Head Coach Hayden Rickard was thrilled when asked about the team getting a taste of finals action. "We've had a taste of what it is like to chase results over the past month to some effect. Our young players have taken a long time to develop their football habits and we are no means the finished article. Finals football is a very different beast with added pressure. The team that welcomes that pressure usually prevails so we know last week means nothing. "We've put the regular season behind us. Yes I'm pleased with our growth in the football department and our improvement as people off the field, but right now, we have a very handy Saints FC to prepare for. Lots of threats and experience across the park to plan for - so, some sleepless nights, and not so much a heavy workload for the team but really finalising how we go about our business on Saturday".

Djarrak FC supporters are urged to be at Hindle Oval on Saturday for the 1pm 1st Semi-Final.
