DJARRAK FC MOVE WITHIN FINALS CHANCE

August 6, 2016

A dominant display through a 17.11.113 to 8.15.63 win over a plucky Gapuwiyak Football Club saw Djarrak Football Club earn fourth position on the Gove AFL Ladder and move close to a booking a valued finals spot that looked unlikely a month ago. The Brown and Gold Army has built momentum over the past three rounds, and with one week of regular season football remaining are in the box seat to lock up the final qualifying spot with the chasing Baywarra FC within a win on the leaderboard.

Djarrak FC were aggressive from the outset in Round 14 GAFL fixture and led the game throughout. With a number of key defenders returning to the side from work commitments, it was an improved defensive display that accompanied some good delivery into the forward zone where spearhead Lapcy Mununggurr racked up six goals in his best outing for season 2016 to date. Defender Ricky Rose played an attacking cameo role with two goals in the last quarter when called forward.

Shaun Mununggurr was impressive through the middle and racked up some key possessions that allowed the team a avenue to goals. Michael Maymuru, Benji Maymuru and Brando Ashley proved hard to contain in a small forward and on-ball rotation that provided dividends with a constant high work rate in both key areas. Shaun Wurramarba continued his class in contested possessions and provides a hard edge whenever at the fall of the ball.

Djarrak FC Head Coach Hayden Rickard was pleased with the outcome when approached after the game. He said "We really needed that result today. A lot of hard work over the past month means we effectively have our finals destiny in our own hands. We had the luxury to move Cameron Stokes into a spare back role and he really was the glue for us down back today. He added "Our biggest obstacle at times is ourselves, not the opposition. We get our headspace right, are prepared to put our bodies on the line, I've no doubt we can go with most teams in the GAFL. We have to take the opportunity presented next week and go from there".

Djarrak FC will face Saints FC at Yirrkala Oval at 4pm.
