Djarrak Football Club will look to get back on the winners list when they take on Gove AFL ladder leaders Nhlunbuy Saints Football Club at 12:oopm at Yirrkala Football Ground this Saturday, in what shapes as an intriguing Round 5 clash. Saints have disposed of all comers thus far in their return to Gove AFL action after a hiatus following the restructure of the Rio Tinto Gove Operations refinery.

After monsoonal weather conditions prevented travel to Gapuwiyak for Round 4, Djarrak FC now find themselves bottom of the Gove AFL ladder courtesy of a 60-0 forfeit being enacted by the league. The task for the brown and gold army is simple, work hard to win as many matches over the following 11 Rounds to ensure a position in the Top 4 and gain a finals berth.

The team has been training well and are now looking to click into gear with results beginning to take a focus on the rebuilding side. Max Tippett returns to action this week and his communication will be instrumental in holding shape in the defensive zone. Dwayne Yunupingu has a month of quality training under his belt and will look to make an impact on the wing with fellow youngster Lee Mununggurr. Small forward Ashley Brando will look to build on an excellent debut game in Round 3 and has added a real threat to the forward structure.

The Darwin Buffaloes Football Club visit Yirrkala to support the ongoing Rirratjingu Football Program that provides Gatapanga (Buffaloes) to Djarrak FC for the Gove AFL Season and in kind support during the NTFL Season. The RFP had a successful pilot experience in the NTFL 2015/16 Season with a number of Djarrak players progressing to Premier League level for the double blues. Darwin Buffaloes FC President John Patterson and Premier League Head Coach Mark Motlop will be supporting Djarrak FC over the weekend in a view to planning for the NTFL 2016/17 year in which the Darwin Buffaloes celebrate its Centenary with a celebration secured for February 4 2017 at Darwin Convention Centre. Motlop was intsrumental in welcoming players from Djarrak FC to Darwin Buffaloes in 2015 and will have a keen eye fixed on possible recruits for Rirratjingu Football Program this coming season. The Darwin Buffaloes groomed a number of young players last year and Djarrak FC's Lee Mununggurr would look likely to feature at some stage in the program.

Darwin Buffaloes player Liam Philpott will debut for Djarrak FC this Saturday with over 150 games of Premier League experience a huge asset to the club. Fellow Gatapanga, Steven Anderson, who brings legendary Buffaloes family pedigree, will also suit up for Djarrak FC and makes his return for the Yirrkala based team after being an important member of the pilot program in 2015.

The club has a number of players out this week for ceremonial obligations. Djarrak FC extend sincere thoughts to all players affected by this recent loss.
