Djarrak Football Club

The Djarrak Football Club is based in Yirrkala, Northern Territory. Its home ground is Yirrkala Football Oval.

 

A foundation club when Gove AFL was formed in November 1973, Djarrak FC won the first contested Premiership in 1975. The club has won seven men's Premiership's to date and the inaugural Women's Premiership in 2017. Premiership years: 1975, 1980, 1981, 2000, 2009, 2015 and a Men's and Women's Premiership in 2017.

 

With most of the playing group residing in Yirrkala, the cultural make-up of the team averages 70% Yolngu. Players trace cultural history to various clans. The Rirratjingu Clan are traditional owners of the Djarrak Football Club. Rirratjingu provide ongoing support to Djarrak FC through the Rirratjingu Aboriginal Corporation.

 

The team colours are Brown and Gold. In 2016 Djarrak FC has utilised Navy for their clash playing strip as a sign of respect to Darwin Buffaloes Football Club, Darwin NT. This reverted to black in 2017, a corporate colour of the Rirratjingu Aboriginal Corporation. Both clubs formed a sister relationship in 2015 with a view to provide opportunities for ongoing football and cultural exchange.

 

Djarrak FC have adopted a number of social endeavours through heavy support of Rirratjingu Aboriginal Corporation using Rirratjingu Football Program as a vehicle for social behaviour change, health education and vocational opportunities of a meaningful capacity.
